Pakistan's military operation in South Waziristan

Nobody seems to know what actually happens when Pakistan takes military action against the Taliban whether it be in Swat Valley or in South Waziristan. The press is not allowed and they do not show any dead bodies of either Taliban or the Army. All we see are videos released by Pakistan army of their soldiers firing their artillery and mortars. Some videos show vehicles burned out in the street. The Taliban says they are killing hundreds of Pakistani soldiers and Pakistan army says its killing hundreds of Taliban. Without a third source to corroborate anything, it makes me wonder if there is actually any real fighting going on. This could be a big staged show for the world and the US will as usual get fooled by the Pakistanis.

And the funny part is the Pakistan leaders keep saying the military operations will be taken to their logical conclusion, whatever that means.

Use of Indian Air Force against Naxals (Maoists)

I always thought the use of IAF and ISRO to fight the naxals was a bad idea and luckily there was enough common sense in the congress government to decide against it. Different strategies have to be used when fighting a local insurgency and foreign sponsored terrorists. The government can and should be able to use any branch of the Indian Military to fight terrorists. Their methods in tackling them should also not be restricted by the human rights organizations. The constitutional rights given to Indian citizens do not apply to terrorists, so even torture should be permitted if needed. But when handling an insurgency like naxals, they are still Indian citizens and will have rights under the Indian constitution even if they do not believe in it. Only the police force should be used against them and torture should not be allowed.

When we use IAF against our own people, then there is a chance of escalation. The naxals may gain popular support which they have lost recently. It would also make them desperate and might force them to attack civilian targets in towns and cities. This would lead to a never ending cycle of violence.

A terrorist can never be negotiated with, but an insurgent can be dealt through talks as most of their reasons to fight are political.

1 cup – Curd or Yogurt
2 large Onions (sliced)
1 large Onion (minced)
6 – Cloves
6 – Cardamoms
2 small sticks -  Cinnamon
2 sticks – Unsalted Butter (16 tbsp)
6 – Green Chillies
6 – Biryani leaves
1/2 cup – Biryani Phool
6 – Star Anees
1/4 cup – Japatri (Mace)
1 tbsp – red Chili Powder
1 cup – Milk
2 tbsp – Ginger-Garlic paste
2 tbsp – Coriander powder
Few strands of Saffron
1/2 cup – Lemon Juices
Garam Masala Powder (make using 12 black pepper corns, 12 cloves, 12 cardamoms, 1 tsp – Sajeera, 2 small sticks of cinnamon)
2 cups – chopped Mint
2 cups – chopped Coriander leaves
Salt to Taste

Wash the basmati rice and let it soak in the 9 cups of water for 30 minutes.

Melt 1 stick of butter in a frying pan and fry the sliced onions till golden brown. Remove from butter and set aside and leave the butter in the pan.

Put the cardamoms, cloves, cinnamon, green chillies, biryani phool, japatri, biryani leaves and star anees in the butter and fry for a minute. Add this to the rice and cook the rice in a rice cooker. Add salt to taste and half of the garam masala powder to the rice. Mix the rice occasionally as it is cooking to spread the spice evenly.

Melt the remaining butter in the frying pan, add minced onions and saute till light brown on medium flame. Add the ginger-garlic paste and saute for a couple of minutes. Add chicken, coriander powder, salt to taste, chili powder, remaining garam masala powder and let cook on medium flame for 5 minutes. Add curd and let cook for another 5 minutes. Remove the frying pan from stove and add 1/4 cup lemon juice and 1/4 cup coriander leaves.

In a bowl, mix the milk, saffron and the remaining lemon juice.

Take a large baking pan and spray some oil. Place 1 inch layer of rice. Add all of the chicken as the next layer. On top of it add the remaining rice. Sprinkle with the chopped mint, coriander leaves and caramelized onions. Pour the milk and lemon mixture over the whole rice. Cover with aluminum foil and bake at 375F for 45 minutes.

Serve hot with Mirchi-ka-Salan and Raita.

Does Obama deserve a Nobel Peace Prize in 2009?

This was a shocking news to hear. In my opinion he does not deserve a Nobel Peace prize so soon. The standards of this commitee have fallen so low that they are now giving out the award based on an anticipation that he will do something in the future.
